Review League 2: Electric Pikachu: The Musical: The Series Now With Prizes & Knuckles
That's right. We're back.
Some of you probably remember the Review League, an ongoing event meant to encourage a lively community of writers and readers on the Bulbagarden Forums. After some adjustments here and there, we're bringing it back!
For those who don't know, the Review League is a game where you can collect points for leaving reviews on fic in the Writers' Workshop. The basic guidelines are as follows:
1.) Review any story posted in the Writers' Workshop. If you comment on multiple chapters in one review, it's recommended that you point out in the review exactly which chapters you comment on.
2.) Post the link to your review in this thread. You don't have to post immediately. You can post up to four reviews at any one time.
3.) Based on the guidelines below, calculate how many points you've earned with your review(s). It helps to say what criteria earned you the amount of points you calculated, but it's not required.
Ways to earn points
- Reviews must be at least 100 words to qualify for the Review League.
- Every review automatically nets you 2 points.
- For every 250 words put into a review, you receive 1 extra point. If an author replies to your review and you continue to post and discuss their fic with them, you can add the discussion posts toward your word count. You would not get base points or any other additional points for replies, just word count points. Please don't write words just to inflate the word count. Your reviews should have some substance to them.
- For reviews commenting on a fic in the Workshop Archive, you will receive 2 extra points per review.
- For first reviews, where the definition of 'review' is a comment on a fic that is 100 words in length or more, you will receive 2 extra points per first review of a one-shot. For chapter fics, you will receive 1 extra point per first review of a chapter.
- For reviews of fics submitted to a contest in the Writers' Workshop, your total points per review will be multiplied by 2.
- Review events will offer opportunities to earn extra points. Keep an eye out for future events!

Prizes
Below is a list of prizes you're able to save up for with the points you earn. We hope that the variety of prizes here will be of use to our community, particularly our community advertisement and send-a-review prizes. If you have an idea for a prize, please message the Writers' Workshop head (@lisianthus) or all of the Workshop mods to let us know. You can choose the same prize as much as you'd like, so long as you have enough points -- your points do not expire, so feel free to hang onto them for as long as you'd like.
Note: With the introduction of prizes to our Review League once more, we are currently hosting discounted prices for prizes. Please note that these prices will likely change in the future depending on activity and demand, so if you find something you are particularly interested in, consider going for it!
Drabble and Ficlet Reviews *includes singular chapters of fics
- Drabble/Flash Fic review (500 words or less, including drabbles): 3 points
- Ficlet review (1000 words or less): 5 points
- Shorter one-shot review (1000 words to 2500 words): 7 points
- Medium one-shot review (2500 words to 5000 words): 10 points
- Long one-shot review (5000 words to 10,000 words): 15 points
- Longfic review (10,000 words+): 40 points
- One-shot beta read (5000 words or less): 20 points
- Long one-shot beta read (5000 words to 10,000 words): 30 points
- Longfic beta read (10,000 words+): 50 points
- Personal fic advertisement on the Bulbagarden Tumblr: 30 points
- Advertisement of a fic of your choice on the Bulbagarden Tumblr: 20 points *permission of chosen fic's author required
- Review of a fic of your choice: 20 points *permission of chosen fic's author required
- Review League Forums Badge: 150 points *tentative price
