Pokémon GO's Wild Area event debuts with an in-person experience this weekend in Fukuoka, Japan, with a global event to follow next weekend

Pokémon GO's new Wild Area event makes its debut this weekend with an in-person event in Fukuoka, Japan on November 16th and 17th, followed by a global event running on November 23rd and 24th. This year's event will feature Electric- and Poison-type Pokémon, with Gigantamax Toxtricity and Snorlax wearing a studded jacket making their Pokémon GO debuts during this event. The GO Safari Ball will also be introduced, which has higher odds of catching Pokémon.

Pikachu Pop Star and Pikachu Rock Star will also be making their first appearance since 2021 during this event.

Mighty Pokémon
Unusually powerful opponents known as Mighty Pokémon can be encountered in this Wild Area Event. These Mighty Pokémon share the following traits:
  • More likely to have high Attack, Defense, and HP ratings
  • More likely to be XL or XXL
  • More difficult to capture
Shiny versions of these Pokémon can also be encountered.

GO Safari Ball

GO Safari Balls will be making their debut as part of this event. These Balls are highly effective Poké Balls that make capturing Pokémon much easier, but which only maintain their effectiveness within the confines of the event. As such, GO Safari Balls acquired during this weekend's live event will be much more effective in Fukuoka, so players who acquire these then leave the city while the event is ongoing won't receive any advantage from doing so.

All unused GO Safari Balls will expire and disappear from the Item bag at scheduled times. For the Fukuoka event, this will be at 5:00pm (JST) each day of the event. During the global event, they will instead disappear at 6:15pm local time each day of the event.
