POKÉTOON Episode 13 Review - I Love Ducklett!

I love how POKÉTOON incorporates these kinds of stories, to show off what life with Pokémon would be like without the need for battling. Anyone can have a certain Pokémon as their buddy, and for this episode the boy’s partner is his Ducklett, who has been with him since birth.

I love the little snippets of his life from infant, to toddler, to young adult. Ducklett is like his life partner in a way. I also really like the very small details, like how both trainer and Pokemon have tufts of hair sticking out, and that they both love skateboarding. Another small detail I noticed is that in the birthday scene, the boy had two candles while Ducklett had three, meaning the duck is like his older brother. However, I can’t just help but wonder what a Pokemon’s true lifespan is because it seems as if this Ducklett has been alive for over a decade and hasn’t evolved into a Swanna.

Also, I noticed an American yellow school bus, meaning this little vignette takes place in the Unova region as that’s where Ducklett originated from, and it’s the region that is influenced by an American city, New York. I really liked that minor detail, showing off features in the Pokémon world that makes it similar to the real world. The background sound is also in English, so it gives a very American vibe, synonymous to Ducklett’s Unovan origins.

This is a very feel-good short, and it makes you wonder what life would be like if Pokémon were real. What sort of partner would you have? For me, I’d love to have a Sylveon or a Jumpluff!
