What's GROWING on? A look at Bulbapedia's newest additions from June 2024

The Bulbapedia encyclopedia is always growing here at Bulbagarden! All sorts of edits and contributions sprout up every single day thanks to Pokémon enthusiasts from all around the world! Let's take a closer look at our editors' excellent contributions that have taken root during June 2024.

First Partner Pokémon Abound!

A few months ago, we updated our pages for ‘starter’ Pokémon to reflect the language used in the games themselves to refer to these fan-favourite species - ‘first partner Pokémon’. These pages now reflect BOTH the canonical terminology for these Pokémon and commonly-understood names used by fans.

However, even in official media there’s a little ambiguity in how this phrase is used. After all, there are the special ‘first partner Pokémon’ that players will be introduced to when starting a new game, but also the ‘first partner Pokémon’ caught or befriended by many players or characters that fall outside of these typical, region-specific trios. We want to do our best to accurately reflect the official terminology that players will be exposed to, but it’s not always easy!

To make sure we’re capturing the full range of uses for this concept, we’ve created a number of pages breaking them all down.

For the special ‘first Partner Pokémon’ species often referred to as ‘starters’:
For all Pokémon that are the first one to be caught or obtained by the player or a particular character:

Show me your moves!

On the top of Mt. Battle in the Orre region, there is an exclusive Move Tutor to the player's Mew. The Mew Move Tutor appears if the player has a Mew in their party; however, since Mew does not natively appear in XD: Gale of Darkness, it must be transferred in via Game Link Cable from a different Generation III game. The Move Tutor will grant your Mew a new learnset after you answer his riddles five, so be sure to pack your thinking cap before you travel to Mt. Battle! And be prepared to go deep when he asks you his array of philisophical questions to ask you, such as "What are Pokémon to you?".

Four Words: Bubble. Beam. Berry. Blast.
The aquatic party has begun, and SuperPikaPool13 has the inside scoop for you! Bubble Beam Berry Blast was a 1 minute animated short that aired in the month of June to celebrate Water-types. It starts with Palafin, Greninja, Quaxly, and Piplup are hanging out near a pond. Palafin points to a Sitrus Berry on a nearby tree and launches its gloves to knock the berry off the tree. While Palafin shows off, Greninja uses its Water Shuriken to knock off the berries, and moves at a fast speed to catch it, messing up Quaxly's hair in the process.

Now, I won't spoil the ending, but you can find out for yourself below:

We all live in a Pokémon...fandom?
It's true! The Pokémon fandom is an expansive--almost infinite--space, and we're all in it! Yes, even readers like you! There are uncountable ways to interact with the franchise we all know and love. Allow me to take you through staff member Landfish7's attempt at pinning down this elusive topic.
The Pokémon fandom, often referred to simply as "the fandom", is a term that refers collectively to fans of the Pokémon franchise. The fandom is as vast and diverse as the series itself, engaging with the Pokémon series in a number of unique and creative ways, with numerous fan communities devoted to various aspects of the franchise.

Since the early days of the Pokémon fandom, hundreds of fan sites and organizations have formed centering around all corners of the Pokémon franchise. Within these communities, certain fans have become quite well known for their contributions and impact on the fandom. Additionally, a number of fans have won Guinness World Records awards.
There's competitive battling, card tournaments, Community Day, speedrunning, cosplay, and more. We want to know, where do you live in the Pokémon fandom?

This article was brought to you by the Bulbapedia team! This has boiled over a little too long.

Are we sure we should be "featuring" group pages that skip over a large number of entries in favor of single line "they're all in this game", "they're all in that game", "they're all in this series"? (No, this isn't exaggerated for comedy.)

Pokémon Rumble series

In the Pokémon Rumble series, all three Kanto first partner Pokémon can be caught and encountered along with their Evolutions.

Pokémon Shuffle

In Pokémon Shuffle, all three Kanto first partner Pokémon can be caught and encountered along with their Evolutions.

Pokémon Sleep

In Pokémon Sleep, the three Kanto first partner Pokémon can be obtained by filling their Friendship Points after a sleep session.

I get it, group pages suck. Basically it's redoing the existing pages for all the characters, but omitting the parts where the characters appear separately. Who wants to spend time doing that? But er, I personally feel that one should wait on putting the page on this kind of pedestal until the page "feels" like a whole and I don't think the per region pages were there yet.

I should clarify: It's not that stub sections are bad, articles have to start somewhere. But I think single sentence sections on topics that are longer than a single sentence on pages that are going down as "here's the big thing that happened this month" doesn't sit right
