First details released on the Scarlet & Violet - Obsidian Flames expansion for the Pokémon TCG, launching internationally from August 11th
This expansion sees the introduction of type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex cards. These Pokémon have weaknesses corrosponding to their shifted type, while still using their regular type of energy to power their attacks. As with regular Tera Pokémon ex, these Pokémon function as Pokémon ex, but with the additional rule that they take no damage from attacks when on the player's bench. All Tera Pokémon ex cards feature unique etched artwork highlighting their Tera Type.
A full set list will not be available for some time, given that Ruler of the Black Flame hasn't even had its own formal announcement in Japan. Dark-type Charizard and Lightning-type Tyranitar Pokémon ex cards were both explicitly noted in the press release however, along with a Toedscruel ex that likely originates from the Japanese ex Special Set. The booster pack art also shows a Dragonite Tera Pokémon ex, which may be from the two "secret" ex Start Decks that have not yet been formally revealed in Japan.
Players can also expect the set to include the following:
- 15 Pokémon ex
- 6 Tera Pokémon ex
- 12 illustration rare Pokémon
- 6 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
- 12 ultra rare full-art etched Pokémon ex and Supporter cards
- 3 hyper rare gold etched cards, which will likely include 1 each of Pokémon ex, Trainer and Energy cards
As usual, Scarlet & Violet - Obsidian Flames will be available across a variety of formats, including the typical booster packs and Special Collections, as well as in an Elite Trainer Box featuring Charmander. Special versions of this Elite Trainer Box will also be available through Pokémon Center in the US, Canada, and the UK. These special versions contain two additional booster packs, and as well as an additional copy of the included illustration rare style promo card of Charmander, featuring the Pokémon Center logo.
