New Game Boy-inspired music player available now at Pokémon Centers US, UK, and Canada; plus new retro “opening scene” merch

The Pokémon Company announced a new music player during its Pokémon Presents today which is designed to look like the original Game Boy. The system will play songs and sounds from Pokémon Red and Blue using 45 different cartridges. Also inspired by Red and Blue, Pokémon Centers worldwide are offering TCG accessories and apparel based on the games’ opening sequence, available online now.

The music player, officially called the Pokémon Red & Pokémon Blue Game Music Collection: Game Boy Jukebox, comes with 45 cartridges modeled after Red and Blue Game Boy cartridges. Each cartridge features a picture from the game related to its melody or sound, which displays on the Game Boy’s “screen” when inserted. The player comes with a storage case, requires batteries, and is limited to one per customer.

The Game Boy Jukebox is available only via lottery in Japan (and also contains Red and Green cartridges instead), but is available for purchase at the Pokémon Center websites serving the US, UK, and Canada now for $69.99 USD / £59.99 GBP / $94.99 CAN. Pokémon Centers specifically note that the buttons are decorative and the system will not run games. See below for a full list of songs and sounds included on the cartridges.



Meanwhile, at the Pokémon Center websites serving the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and even at the still-in-beta Germany Pokémon Center, a small new collection of merchandise also inspired by Pokémon Red and Blue is available now. The collection is specifically based on the opening scene that plays on the games’ startup, showing a green/grayscale battle between Gengar and Nidorino.
