In a sudden shadow-drop for Pokémon Day, the Pokémon Company has announced the launch of the Pokémon Game Sound Library, allowing fans to download music and musical scores from the Pokémon video game series at zero cost, for non-commercial personal use only.

The Pokémon Game Sound Library is currently only available in Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. We expect however that this service will open up to users from more countries over the coming hours, as Pokémon Day begins across different timezones.

At present, 45 separate tracks from the original first generation Pokémon games (released in Japan in 1996) are available for download, with 6 of these tracks also having music scores available. Brass band music scores for the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet main theme are also available. Users can also stream the tracks from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl that were previously made available in the Pokémon DP Sound Library.

The website explicitly states that downloaded music and scores can be used for purposes such as background music for video streaming, events, and performances, and educational usage, so long as no revenue or rewards are gained from its use. Several restrictions are placed on use however, with users prohibited from processing the music for use, including changing speed or tempo, applying effects, or sampling the music. More details on these usage guidelines can be found on the Pokémon Game Sound Library website, and in the published explanation video. The updated terms and stipulations on the new Pokémon Game Sound Library website will also apply to the previously distributed Pokémon DP Sound Library, however this library is not currently available for download.
