The Mega Evolution update in Pokémon GO available globally; Mega Kangaskhan Raid Day to take place on May 1st

The Mega Evolution update in Pokémon GO is now live globally. To celebrate this Mega update, the A Mega Moment event will be held from April 29th, at 10:00 a.m. local time to May 1st, at 8:00 p.m. local time.


Pokémon with Evolutions that can currently Mega Evolve in Pokémon GO will be appearing more frequently in the wild during this event. This includes:
  • Bulbasaur
  • Charmander
  • Squirtle
  • Slowpoke
  • Gastly
  • Mareep
  • Buneary
  • Snover
All of the above listed Pokémon will also be able to be encountered in their Shiny variants.

Additionally, the following bonuses and activities will also be running during this event:
  • A new Special Research story with branching tasks will available to Trainers level 5 and up. This Special Research will give Trainers a chance to try out Mega Evolution for themselves, offering them a choice of Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise.
  • Event-themed Field Research tasks will be available. A random reward of Mega Energy for any of the Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution currently available in Pokémon GO (excluding Kangaskhan) can be received upon completing them.
  • All Mega-Evolved Pokémon will receive a CP boost in battles.
  • Mega Kangaskhan will be making its debut appearance in Mega Raids. On May 1st, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time, a Mega Kangaskhan Raid Day will take place, where Mega Kangaskhan will be appearing more frequently in Mega Raids during this time. Trainers have an increased chance of encountering the Shiny variant.
  • Receive up to five free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs during the event and up to two hours afterward.
